KEBABS - how bad for you are they (or how good)?

I like them now and again. Are they alright to eat, for dc to eat?

(this is slightly connected to me burning the lunch today..)

Healthier, less healthy than say pizza?

No way healthier than pizza. Pizza is bread, tomato puree, cheese, meat and veg. No idea why they are considered so unhealthy, it's all about choosing the right toppings. Kebab, unless homemade, is full of questionable meat and whatever junk is in it to bind it all together.

Or maybe go for a chicken/lamb kebab rather than a donner kebab?

I don't think anything is bad for you in moderation.
Once a month or so if it's what you really want then eat it and enjoy it.

Tillyscoutsmum · 04/11/2010 18:18

I don't really know about for dc's but I do remember a chicken kebab with salad and chilli, mint and lemon was about the lowest "points" value take away on weightwatchers Smile (i.e. less saturated fat and calories)

I can't imagine its that bad occasionally ...

MrsVincentPrice · 04/11/2010 18:18

Nothing wrong with shish kebabs occasionally. Donner on the other hand.......

Rocketbird · 04/11/2010 18:23

Shish kebabs are fine, eat them when on a healthy eating kick and DD has had some of mine in the past. All they are is chicken, salad, pitta and lemon juice. Don't like the chilli sauce much to the amusement of the shop owner Blush. Just don't have the chips!

As for donner, I absolutely love them but haven't eaten one for about 10 years. My mum read something gross about them and made me promise never to have another one on the understanding that she didn't tell me the gross thing she had read :o

Disclaimer: we are talking about greasy kebab shop kebabs rather than authentic cuisine...if they are authentic.

MaDuggar · 05/11/2010 16:35

I make my own donner kebab which works out quite healthy.

squarehat · 05/11/2010 16:49

Don't know for sure but convinced myself that chicken kebabs aren't that bad. The garlic and chilli sauce maybe, but just the chicken pitta and salad cant be so bad? Or Am I being delusional :)
