Are these still ok to use? The best before dates are well gone but they look fine. I need them to make my Christmas cake on Sunday. Any thoughts?

Taste them. Should be ok. Might need a bit of a soak in fruit juice to rehydrate them. Otherwise I would just use them.

I wouldn't use the peel. Will most likely be dry and hard and I doubt that you could rehydrate it. Cherries might be ok. If you bought new, you could use the old stuff in a Christmas pud.

No I wouldn't use the peel either. If you're going to buy new, I'd recommend the big pieces that you cut up yourself, they are much tastier and then you can get the size you want too. I buy Sundora's candied peel at Sainsbo's, it has lime in which I love.

Thanks all. I did try the cherries and they seemed ok. The peel did look hard but I couldn't remember if that was right. So I'll chuck that one and get some from Sainsbury's. They sound great.
