someone reassure me that long-defrosted puff pastry won't kill me ... please?

I bought some frozen puff pastry on Saturday and put it in the fridge to defrost.

I haven't got round to using it until now (Tuesday evening).

But on the packet it says 'use within 24 hours after defrosting'

The ingredients are flour, water and oil. If I now make sausage rolls will I get food poisoning?

Someone tell me the date is just a marketing ploy ... please?

Have you done a sniff test? How does it smell? If those are the only ingredients I don't see an issue but be cautious if it smells off

If it smells fine and looks fine then it is fine.

Date is to keep the manufacturers safe.

PlentyOfPockets · 26/10/2010 18:57

Yeah, it's fine unless it really smells, just make sure it's properly cooked through.

Thanks everyone. My DH just came into the kitchen to find me with my nose in a sheet of pastry, sniffing. It smells OK so I am gonna go ahead. Look on the medical topic tomorrow - if I am there you know it went wrong Grin

Mmm really want a homemade sausage roll now! Got any spare? Can't make my own as moving house tomorrow Sad

I made a pie with puff pastry that was going slimy. We all lived.
