Smoked Salmon 1 Day Past Use By - What do you think?

Hi, got some cheap smoked salmon yesterday from supermarket. Was going to use it to make some fishcakes and freeze them tonight but just realised the use by was actually yesterday. I've smelled it and it smells ok - like fish - and tasted a little bit which tastes ok too.

Would you use it? The fishcakes are for me (pregnant) and toddler so I don't really want to risk poisoning us but can't bear to waste it. Plus the potatoes are already on...

I would use if I was going to eat it tonight and was sure it looked & smelt ok and was hot hot through. My uncle (fisherman) always used to send us a side of smoked salmon for xmas. It came direct from the smokers, no use by date, and it would keep going for a couple of weeks at least.

I would be much more cautious about freezing, tbh, as the slow cooling, then reheating gives bugs lots of chance to grow.

I would eat it and freeze it. You would know if it was off. But then I will eat anything a few days after, cheese weeks after...

Thanks :) I've just fried it and will make the fishcakes later tonight. DD has had her tea so will only be me and the cat who get poisoned if any probs...

I've normally got cast iron stomach but as I'm pregnant want to be a bit cautious.
