Hello, im off out for the day today, i have a Chicken that need cooking.

I am always hearing good things about Slow Cooking whole Chickens so i thought i would give it a go.

I'm a little wary because i tried a Beef Joint and it didn't come out very nice at all.

I just need to know how long to cook it for either on high or low and if i need to add stock.

It is an organic Chicken so im not expecting buckets of liquid to come out of it although i know some will.

I will be putting a lemon and Parley inside the Chicken. Smile

TIA

little bit of oil, lemon juice, herbs. Cook on low.

They are nice, but it will totally fall apart, so you wont be able to carve it iykwim? Nice though esp with salad and potatoes

I was hoping for Salad and Potatoes, i have a glut of new Potatoes from my Nan's Garden!

How long does it go on for roughly?

I do 6hrs on high or 10 on low if out at work all day.

I put mine in about an inch of water to keep it moist all day, and leave on low for about 8 hours.

Just be carful, my slow cooker would need to be on high to cook a chicken through!

Sounds great. I normally brown it off in a frying pan to add colour , put a layer of whatever veg is to hand (celery, root veg etc) and add a few cms of veg stock, bayleaf and black pepper, sit it on some rolled up foil so it isn't resting on the bottom of the pot, is above the liquid and can't stick.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 19/09/2010 09:13

I put mine on little metal dishes to keep it off the bottom, stick a lemon and some herbs in it then cook on high for 3 hours. That works fine for a 1.3 kg chicken in my slowcooker.

Rice and green salad.

Sounds yummy.

Also what does everyone 'do' with the vast amount of Juices? They are all Chickeny and Lemony and i don't want to chuck em!

I usually use it in a risotto. I absolutely definitely don't scoff a huge bowlful of it with crusty bread. Nope. Not me.

Freeze them and use for soup/casserole/gravy at a later date.

Earlybird · 19/09/2010 15:58

Use them as gravy? Pour over mashed potatoes and/or rice?

Rofl i have a Tiger Loaf, it looks so appealing right now for dipping!
