apples, apples, lots and lots of apples - what shall I do with them?

eating and cooking apples - more than I can imagine what to do with. Any inspiring ideas, anyone?

spiced apple chutney is lovely. You could use the cookers to make crab apple and hot pepper jelly. Then there is the whole applesauce/stewed apples/pie filling thing, you can make all of these and either freeze or put into warm, sterile jars for storing.

You could also try making apple bread, apple muffins or apple and banana cupcakes. You can peel, core, slice and dry in the oven to make dried apple rings, or just make some jam/jelly. I also like to make apple butter at this time of the year.

Yogabird, I feel your pain - I have a Bramley that's done really well this year, and I hate having to waste any fruit or veg from the garden!

BUT there's only so much you can do with them. Yes to chutney (made loads of that last year), and cooking down into puree to freeze (I add some lemon peel, brown sugar and butter - yum). Also what about this recipe? www.recipes4us.co.uk/Preserves/golden_apple_mincemeat___veg___h.htm I haven't made this precise one, but I've done another mincemeat using apples instead of suet, and it's lovely. Only uses 3lbs of apple, though, so it's probably just a drop in the ocean!

peal and slice the cooking apples and then part cook them and freeze in freezer bags, make sure the portion size is about right for a family crumble or pie etc
Then you will have ready filling for puds throughout the year.
