What are you funny about with food?

I love cereal, absolutely love it, in fact I love it so much, and partly due to laziness (didn't have time to make tea before going out), I had 4 bowls of it yesterday!

However the milk absolutely has to be cold, ice cold if possible, but not even slightly near room temperature . Preferably skimmed, semi at a push. And I can't stand soggy cereal, my bowl cannot be left even for a minute to soak up the milk, so I tend to shovel it down! All that said and done it is still my favourite snack, but heavily caveated Grin

What are your weird food habits?

Biting the ends off chocolate fingers and sucking hot tea through them.

This is quite hard with the mini version Grin

shinyshoes · 08/09/2010 16:42

I have to eat my food hot and drink my tea even hotter.
I dont hang around if the food sits around longer than a couple of minutes I get the hump.

Same with tea, I drink it with the teabag left in the cup and it has to come from a boiling kettle. The kettle can't have boiled and sat there for a few minutes until made, it has to be boiling and I drink it straight away. I can't abide warm tea

ShinyAndNew · 08/09/2010 16:44

Oh I like my cereal just like you. I can't stand soggy cereal.

I also eat the crusts off bread first. And I have to eat food in order of preference, starting with the type I like the least. I even do this with dishes like spag bol and curry I have to eat the spaghetti or rice first and then the meat/sauce last. I don't like it when DH put's my curry on my rice. It has to be next to it.

And I bite the biscuit off twixes and then save caramel bit for last.

Umami · 08/09/2010 16:54

You need the eatmecrunchy bowl Grin

Umami · 08/09/2010 16:58

And off at a tangent, does anyone fancy some cereal milk ice-cream? Mmmmmm.

I have to extract the jaffa bit from jaffa cakes, but that is normal, not weird, no?

loveulotslikejellytots · 08/09/2010 17:11

I'm the same with cereal, DH loves it soggy, makes me gag! And i'm the same with sandwiches, I have to bite the crusts off each sandwich first then I eat the middle bit.

I also eat meals such as a burger and chips, chips first, burger last.

Slightly different, but the way my shopping goes on the conveyor belt has to be right... Heavy stuff first, then square stuff, then odd shaped stuff (such as bin bags, toiletries etc.) then cooked meat, then raw meat, then soft stuff. DH thinks i'm wierd... he may have a point... Hmm

Bumperlicious · 08/09/2010 17:54

OMG I so need that bowl! But they don't sell them any more!

yy to cold milk on crisp cereal

chewy bendy toast not hot melted butter (hangover from boarding school)

fruit cut up not eaten into (ditto)

scrambled eggs piping hot

don't start me on how I like my coffee

reading this list it seems I am a fussy breakfast eater

CuppaTeaJanice · 08/09/2010 18:04

I don't eat small animals.

I figure if an animal has to die for food, then it should provide a lot of meals. So beef or lamb is fine, as a cow or sheep carcass will feed dozens of people, but the smallest I'd eat is something like a chicken or cod. I don't think it's fair to kill hundreds of prawns, for example, to provide just one meal.

I want to minimise the number of animals that die to provide my food, without me becoming a vegetarian.

Am I wierd? Blush

nameymcnamechange · 08/09/2010 18:11

Oh dear, I could go on for days with this one. I am horrendously fussy.

I always have white and wholemeal bread on the go because somethings must go on white bread (bacon, eggs, chicken, marmite) and some must go on brown (cheese, ham, peanut butter, anything with tomato or avocado).

All cups of tea must be made with fresh water from the tap freshly boiled (never re-boiled).

White wine must be really cold.

Everything else must be v hot, except for quiche.

As I am a slow eater I will often get up and microwave my meal for a minute half way through so that it is properly hot again!

crikeybadger · 08/09/2010 21:12

That's an interesting one cuppatea. Smile

agree that food has to be piping hot - I usually leave a few baked beans as they are luke warm by the time I get to them.

Algebra18MinusPiEquals16 · 08/09/2010 21:16

umami I have the eatmecrunchy bowls! I was wondering why my gadget-mad friend texted me once, asking me if I liked cereal, and if I liked it crunchy or soggy Hmm

all was revealed when he turned up at christmas with 2 of the bowls!

can't think of any weird habits apart from eating certain biscuits/chocolate bars in certain ways (normally eating all the chocolate coating off first!)

oh, but DH has nutella WITH BUTTER and it makes me want to puke. naaasty.

jooseyfruit · 08/09/2010 21:26

Umami ds2 extracts the Jaffa bit from his Jaffa cake, and sticks it on his cheek before eating it. Hmm

I have no weirdy food weirdness at all!

Algebra18MinusPiEquals16 · 08/09/2010 23:35

well I do nibble the outside off a jaffa cake, then peel the jaffa bit off and save it til last... but I can assure you I do not stick it anywhere on my person :o

MoonFaceMama · 09/09/2010 08:07

Hate egg white and hate rubbery scrambled egg, has to be nice and runny.

Find it very hard not to clear my plate no matter how full Blush and like the last mouthfull to have a perfect bit of all the best components of the meal.

Low fat dairy products are all a waste of time, a crime against cowmanity and should be wiped off the face of the earth.

Smash09 · 09/09/2010 10:36

Agree with you, Moonfacemama, about the lowfat dairy products... milk is already only 4% fat! And the different in taste is massive. I do break my rule though when it comes to milk in tea - wholemilk in tea is nasty and it has to be semi. Fat free cottage cheese is the devils smeg.

I have to put butter on toast while it's still hot so that it melts in, but I have to wait for toast to be cooler before putting peanut butter on so that it doesn't run everywhere. Can't stand that.

Hate most cold cereal due to the fear of slightly room temp milk, soggy bits, and bits getting stuck in my teeth. Shudder.

My mum has to drink tea from a white mug. Pale will do, in a pinch.

I'll probably think of more, I'm really distgustingly fussy Blush

TrillianAstra · 09/09/2010 10:39

Sauces must not mix.

Egg and beans must be very separate in a fried breakfast, for example, because you don't want bean juice in your egg yolk.

BornToFolk · 09/09/2010 10:43

I like ketchup and brown sauce but only on chips, sausages or burgers. No sauce must ever touch a vegetable or, the worst thing, egg.

I don't like sweet and savoury together (except for peanut butter and jam, which I love). Fruit in a main course (like in salad, or on pizza) is usually a Bad Thing.

I recently noticed that when I eat, I start at the same point of the plate. If the plate was a clock face, I start at the number 2, and then work into the middle.

OnEdge · 09/09/2010 10:54

I like cornflakes with HOT milk and tons of sugar mmmmmm......

Bumperlicious · 09/09/2010 11:59

I've remembered loads more:

Beans, I can't chew them - I don't really like pulses and the texture makes me gag, but sometimes you need that bean saucyness!

Don't like veg on pizza, despite liking it in any other context

Can't stand full cream milk, it's not a fat thing, I just don't like cream, it makes me gag

I also hate it when food starts to go cold. If I'm making dinner, despite several warnings to DH he still fannies around getting DD ready and getting drinks etc. When I say dinner is ready, it's bloody ready! When I say it's nearly ready I mean shift your arse and get to the table!
