I often have a soggy bottom too :) - I think a metal pie plate works better than pyrex or pottery as it gets hotter quickly.
Also I blind bake and brush with egg, but it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference.
Awaiting a really knowledgeable cook.

personally i don't bother and my bottom's never that soggy. Any soggyness in my bottom is usually a pleasant contrast to my crusty top. Nice.
I only blind bake for lidless things, which have greater need of a crisp base.

Well I ended up blind baking for about 5 mins, and it came out really well. I used a pyrex pie dish.
