Special meal for mum - what to cook?

It's my mum's birthday on Sunday and I am cooking a special meal for 6 of us.

I was planning on making bouillabaisse (fish soup/stew) which she really likes, followed by Jamie Oliver's seabass with herbs and mushrooms (cooked on bed of potatoes) and has been a hit before. My mum isn't a massive mushroom fan though and I wonder if that'd be too much fish anyway?

Any ideas? I could do something else as a starter and the bouillabaissea the main I suppose?

Afters sorted - pannacotta, tiramisu and cantucci all homemade.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

It sounds like the kind of thing that she wouldn't make herself alot (I am obviously comparing to my elderley parents!) so I would carry on.
You can never have too much fresh fish IMO.

If I have family over I do a leg of lamb and Tom Aitkens slow cooked lamb shoulder also.
Maybe not special enough for a birthday though.

What an extremely lucky mother you have. I would do bouillabaise as a main I think along with aioli smothered toasted baguette slices.

With all those fabulous sounding puddings, I think I would just have lots of Prosecco and some darling home made canapes an hour or so before instead of a sit down starter.

IMHO I think it would be too much fish to have both.

How about Italian style salamis/olives/sunblush tomatoes/rocket etc?

Or a nice Jamie O style salad like fig/parma ham/mozzarella or something?

Meal last night. Ended up making fish soup, a lamb tagine and then tiramisu, panna cotta & polenta and orange biscuits. Washed down with lots of wine. Odd mix perhaps but went down well. Thanks for your posts.
