Tail-end of last year's blackberries from freezer...

Had a freezer sort-out today, and discovered the last of last year's blackberries lurking at the back.

As it is now nearly autumn and I plan to pick fresh ones soon, I've taken them out of the freezer and put them to defrost in the fridge - ideally I'll put them to good use tomorrow. So... can anyone tell me:

a) will they still be good to use after 11 months in the freezer? Blush

b) what can I do with them? Don't fancy crumble yet, and not in the mood for Eton Mess / summer fruit puddings etc.

c) they weigh roughly 750g - is it worth making jam or jelly with this amount?

d) if yes to c), I also have some stewed nectarines in the freezer which need using up (happily, they have only been in there for 6 weeks as opposed to 11 months Hmm) - is bramble and nectarine jelly/jam too vile to contemplate?

e) has anyone ever made blackberry ice cream?

f) should I just chuck them...?

TIA

I am sure I have seen a recipe somewhere for a nectarine and blackberry tart - maybe a frangipane thing on a puff pastry base.

I wouldn't throw them out - but equally I wouldn't fancy them uncooked. I have a good apple and blackberry cake recipe.

Thanks taffetacatski - good to know my nectarine and blackberry notion isn't unheard of.

Will Google - I know I'm being a bit lazy, but I hate wasting food and to be honest my heart fell when I unearthed the BBs from the freezer as I'd totally forgotten about them.

And I'm about to start a new job so need to clear the freezer so I can pack it full of homemade "ready meals" for the first few weeks of being back at work - hence panic and wanting some reassurance from MN Wink

Think I might experiment with jam/jelly - not made any for years, but I feel more 'in the zone' for jars of things than I do for puds right now, iykwim.

Blackberries make a lovely jelly. You could also make blackberry syrup and bottle it. It's nice with sparkling water (or wine). Blackberry and apple fool. I have got a really old recipe for blackberry ketchup if you want it. You could make blackberry and nectarine chutney with spices in it for Christmas presents. I have just found last year's plums lurking at the back of my freezer.
