how about...
"hosteeeeeess potato chips, when you've got the munchies, nothing else will doooooooo"

that is a little obscure, I'll admit, but it has stayed with me for 30 years

sansouci · 30/08/2005 22:09

let's sing o canada:

ooohhhhhh CAN eh dahhhhhh! our home & native laaaand!

princesspeahead · 30/08/2005 22:10

truuuue patriot loooooooove, in all thy sons commaaaaaaand

princesspeahead · 30/08/2005 22:12

ahem. your heart should be glowing by now...

sansouci · 30/08/2005 22:13

well, something's glowing!

didn't the words get changed at some point? do we still sing God Save the Queen as an alternative?

princesspeahead · 30/08/2005 22:14

how could they change the words? although for about 5 years at school I thought the words were "we stand on God for thee" rather than on guard... I had a very strong visual image of all of us standing on God for the benefit of good ol' canada....

sansouci · 30/08/2005 22:16

oh, that's so funny, pph!

princesspeahead · 30/08/2005 22:18

I was so disappointed when I realised I had been singing it wrong and with such fervour for years.
I remember at brownies we would start the evening by singing O Canada THEN God save the Queen THEN the brownies song... took hours.

Do you remember the polyester white and orange brownie scarf with maple leaves on???

sansouci · 30/08/2005 22:19

yes and the polyester brown pantsuit to go with it. groan.

sansouci · 30/08/2005 22:20

what type of brownie were you? This is what we do as Elves, Think of others not ourselves!

princesspeahead · 30/08/2005 22:22

NOW I'm jealous. Pantsuit? Mine was a brown cotton dress with an elasticated waist....I was an elf as well but wouldn't have remembered that rhyme in a million years...
would kill for a box of vanilla girl guide cookies now though. GOD they were good!

sansouci · 30/08/2005 22:26

yes, they were fantastic. i looked terrible in my pantsuit. eating the cookies instead of selling them, i think.

princesspeahead · 30/08/2005 22:29

the only thing I really miss about canada though is Eggo Waffles. Don't understand why you can't get them over here. The most fantastic convenience breakfast food in the world. And you can't import them post-holiday because they are frozen! HUGE business opportunity waiting to be taken up I feel - exclusive UK distributor for Eggo....

ever feel you've hijacked a thread?

oh, my dd went NUTS about Eggo waffles this summer! i thought she'd hate them (like most other things. she never eats breakfast!) but she ate them every morning for 3 weeks with barfo Aunt Jemima syrup over them.
