Looking for inspiration here, if anybody has any spare.

What do you eat with the following -

macaroni cheese

goulash

sausage casserole

pasta pesto

lasagne

to make them into complete, delicious and nutritional meals? :)

Macaroni cheese - usually add either peas or broccolli to it and serve with carrots or something.

Goulash - I make veggie goulash and either have it with rice or pasta ribbons.

My sausage casserole has everything in it, so just serve it as is, with crusty bread for older, hungrier teenagers.

Pesto pasta - serve with salad with a sharp dressing.

Lasagne - veg lasagne on it's own, meaty lasagne with broccoli (kids fave.)

Crusty bread with sausage casserole sounds like my favourite sort of meal! I put loads of vege in it, so it doesn't need vege on the side.

Wish I like broccoli........

Smash, sorry but baked beans with macaroni sounds gruesome. :)

macaroni cheese - has to be with warm buttered toast. (can also add peas to the recipe and put slices of tomato on top before popping into oven)

goulash - boiled baby new potatoes and crusty bread

sausage casserole - mashed potatoes

pasta pesto - green salad or tomato and onion salad, crusty bread

lasagne - green salad and garlic bread

All go absolutely fine with wine!

:) Ooh I could try little roasted baby potatoes with goulash too - they'd be nice with soured cream!

I think I must be the only person who can't get the idea of mash with casserole: I think I must be a bit OCD about foods mixing!

Like the idea of adding peas to the macaroni cheese.

Pesto pasta - add green beans to the last 2-3 mins of cooking pasta and then cherry tomatoes.

wahwahwah · 20/08/2010 17:51

or broad beans (yummy)

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 18:27

I love broad beans but nobody else will eat them. Even dp, who eats almost everything, complains about them. More for me!

Do you peel them?

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 19:38

Yup - if they're fresh ones, always. Frozen ones, if I can be bothered.

OP posts:
wahwahwah · 20/08/2010 19:39

Hmmm, no accounting for taste then! Aparently they are nice mashed.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 19:43

Have seen recipes for crostini topped with mashed broad beans - always looks a bit too much like mushy peas for my liking!

There is a v nice Persian dish of rice and broad beans - or it would be nice if they didn't smother it in dill, which I dislike.
