Are onions / garlic 'stimulative' (ie; likely you keep you awake)?

I could swear that whenever I have lots of onion or garlic in my evening meal that it keeps me awake. Anyone know if there is something in them that causes it?

Yesterday I had some potent home grown onion with greek salad and ended up doing admin and doing to bed at 2am Confused. Garlic seems to give me a burst of energy too.

Am I weird?

Well, if DH has too much onion, the end result might keep me awake - does that count?!

Sorry, otherwise - no, not for me anyway!!

Onion and garlic have various medicinal properties mostly connected with blood-flow, reducing BP, anti-bacterial properties, improving lung-function. Garlic, according to some sources, is considered a stimulating aphrodisiac - a 'hot herb'!! Elsewhere it's actually recommended as an aid to sleep.

Could be something else that is in the meal coincidentally. (Such as you drink a cup of coffee afterwards) Or it could be that you associate onions/garlic with a wide-awake feeling so you expect to feel that way... psychosomatic, in other words..
