I've got green beans coming out of my ears!!!

We have had a huge crop of green beans this year and they show no signs of slowing down so I need some ideas of 'things' to do with them!

So far we have had them 'au naturel' ie as a veg, and cooked and stirred in with courgettes and smoked bacon to make a side veg - so now what?

My 'bean' situation isn't helped by the fact that my parents are away on holiday so we have got all theirs too!!

Jamie Oliver has a yummy-looking recipe with green beans and capers (although obv you have to like capers ) in Jamie's Dinners - I'll try and find it...

This is my by best thing to do with beans (it's a side dish, but with good bread would do for peasanty supper)

Boil/steam for 5 mins or so till al dente, then quickly dunk in cold water, drain and dress with lemon, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper.

i like em drizzled in olive oil , salt pepper and blasted in v hot oven till crispy, yummy

hoxtonchick · 22/08/2005 18:42

stir fry them with prawns & garlic (loads & loads of), & chilli if it isn't for kids. serve with either rice or pasta.

If they've come from your ears I'm not sure that it's all that hygienic to serve them to your family.

snafu · 22/08/2005 18:45

4 handfuls green beans
2-3 tbsp french mustard
2 tbsp white wine vinegar
7 tbsp olive oil
salt & pepper
1 medium shallot, finely chopped
1 tbsp capwers (optional, apparently!)
1/2 clove finely gated garlic

Boil beans

Mix rest of ingredients together to form a dressing

Dress hot beans

Serve

simple, eh?

oooh lots of yummy things thanks. I shall try a few and let you know!

bran - it's only me and dh that'll eat them - the dd's love picking them but aren't keen, so the ears thing is ok - dh wouldn't dare criticise my cooking!

They are lovely raw - it makes you realise how tasteless the ones are from the supermarket - even with my greenfly spray back in about May!!
