Chalie & Lola Monster cake

I'm loving the hedgehogs & the use of matchmakers is just genius

I just love making novelty birthday cakes and over the years I have made quite a variety for DS & some of his friends... this year he's madly into star wars and really wants a Darthvader dress up costume for his present so i'll be surprising him with a Darthvader helmet chocolate cake.. not sure exactly how i'm going to do it but it'll be fun trying! I thought i'd stack a couple of round cakes & add a dome on top, try and shape the breathing mouthpiece bit and just cover with melted cadburys milk choc.. hopefully this will resemble Darthvaders helmet!?!

These are the cakes I've done over the years

Fi - they are brilliant

Reminds me of my friend's DS who wanted a cake of Doctor Who's head as he was regenerating

Just finished DD's 4th birthday cake for tomorrow. Tis pink, sparkly, feathery with lollies and M and M's. A Mummy/DS/DD special.

Op - fwiw I think a choc hedgehog with matchmakers as per MrsBadger's would be brilliant.

Does anyone have a tried-and-tested hedgehog cake recipe? I'm not an expert baker and it's DD1's 2nd next week and I think she'd absolutely LOVE one.

Aren't matchmakers Nestle as well tho?!

taffetacatski · 23/07/2010 15:49

Yes I think matchmakers are Nestle. Lots of the supermarkets do their own brand type ones though.

MrsBadger · 23/07/2010 15:50

oh yes, I like co-op cheapy ones best

BrownPaperandString · 23/07/2010 22:35

Right. I've done it and it looks magic.

mini choc fingers for spines

Choc buttercream with actual choc in it

White choc buttons for eyes with some of the buttercream in the middle for the pupil (do hedgehogs have pupils?

Glace cherry for it's nose.

Except that I made it while the dishwasher was going and it started to get a bit melty!

It's now hardening up nicely in the fridge.
