Hi Misdee - I'm in for the same sort of afternoon as you!

Not sure about the melon.

Which child is this for? How old? Can you use spices and herbs too?

Carrots and sweet potatoes are lovely together
I also mix apples and pears.
I should think that sweet potatoes and apples would taste nice together too.

are you just starting to wean Misdee? my dd is 4 months and I hope to start at 6 months. Are we supposed to introduce meat straight away at 6 months now?

misdee · 20/08/2005 12:31

i started her on baby rice about 4weeks ago. she loves it. was hoping to get to 6monbths but she was grabbing food off everyone lol. i have been using some jars, but really want to make my own food rather than relyon on jars this time.

yeah, not sure dd will wait that long either.

Littlefish · 20/08/2005 12:38

Have you got any coconut milk? Carrots and sweet potato cooked in coconut milk with a teeny bit of curry powder is lovely once she's been eating for a few weeks.

I've never cooked avocado, I just gave it raw and mashed to my dd.

misdee · 20/08/2005 12:41

right, will keep the avacado then in the fridge, it feels very hard still, so will use it tomorrow maybe.

OP posts:
Littlefish · 20/08/2005 12:48

It you want to use it tomorrow, then I would leave it in the open (mine live in the fruit bowl) as they take a long time to ripen in the fridge.

misdee · 20/08/2005 12:48

ok. 1st time i have bought oen, can you tell lol!!

sucess, in the end only managed to do the cfarrots and sweet potato (need more ice cube trays) but dd3 has just wolfed down a big bowlful.

OP posts:
Littlefish · 20/08/2005 18:58

Congratulations!

Once the cubes are frozen, I take them out and put them in a labelled and dated freezer bag. That way, you don't need to have too many ice cube trays.

Agree about not buying any more ice cube trays, take them out when frozen and put them into plastic bags.

Lots easier!

misdee · 20/08/2005 20:26

well i have 6 small pots with lids for hospital days out, and they have been filled, but only have one lot of square ice cube trays. the rest are all shaped ones and i use all 6 trays of ice a day . will get some freezer bags and 2 large trays.

I know Annabel Karmel seems to have a mixed response on here, but all of mine adored her lovely lentils recipe (6-9mths).

My oldest dd is nearly 7yrs now, but reading your post about spending an afternoon steaming and pureeing brought back a happy memory. Gosh, it seems like yesterday
