So, what are the alternatives to mn?

I'm getting bored of threads with people beeing pounced on just for mentionning private schools, not being on benefits, not living in council accommodation etc etc. There seem to be less entertaining threads these days as everyone has to tiptoe around being politically correct about every conceivable aspect of life. A friend of mine mentionned a while ago that one of the newspapers has a good forum but I haven't found that. Any ideas where else I can lurk for entertaining threads when there's a full moon on mn? Don't suggest netmums, I don't "get" that site at all.

why don't you google parenting forums or whatever other style of forum you have interest in and pick one that seems to suit you? There are hundreds out there.

Bounty

Intelligent debate, sensible parenting advice, and no baby name dramas like on MN.

Did Bad Mothers' Club move to a payment-only model? That was generally good.

MrsFogi · 15/12/2008 14:16

AIM I'll stick to mn for the parenting advice I just want a few threads that make me laugh out loud and a few less threads that have potential that get seriously boring when a few posters start hammering the OP because they perceive them as having more than they do.
I know I should google TCA but I figured some mners would have tested the water elsewhere already.

"A friend of mine mentionned a while ago that one of the newspapers has a good forum but I haven't found that".

Well...... ask your friend for the web address!

If it's the DM, you won't have to worry about being politically correct about any conceivable aspect of life.

Pick an interest you have, and find a forum that covers it. This is the one and only parenting forum I go on, but I have other places to hide in if need be - they're just set up for other things.

WilyWombat · 15/12/2008 14:23

I use handbag.com for "frivolous" stuff.

Did you want a parenting site otherwise just google anything you are interested in and no doubt you will find a forum on the subject.

I agree it just such hard work trying to be PC about everything here sometimes, Im interested to hear how people who are different to me think about things but there are somepeople who think their opinion is law and will be obnoxious if you disagree.

Having said that you do learn which subjects to avoid and you will struggle to find another forum where you can get an almost instant answere to almost any question

I will admit to publically snurking at the idea that having a special drawer to store all of your shrunken cashmere each year to use to make Christmas presents could ever be considered an eco-living tip to be circulated to the world at large.

beforesunrise · 15/12/2008 14:25

how about RL instead :-)

PortAndStilton · 15/12/2008 14:26

I don't think MN is PC, just argumentative. Any viewpoint gets roundly and robustly disagreed with, IME.

The forums at abebooks.com (not the UK forums) are good if you like reading, but can seem a bit cliquey at first (very friendly, but there are lots of in-jokes).

VinegarTitsTheSeasonToBeJolly · 15/12/2008 14:34

Well why dont you start some funny threads then instead of moaning about it, or you expecting other people to start witty threads for you

Make your own fun, you cant blame us for your boredom

wrinklytum · 15/12/2008 14:36

There are ALTERNATIVES?

MrsFogi · 15/12/2008 14:54

CarminaBanana, would love to ask her but it is not something I want to ask her at the moment (she has serious things happening in her life and I don't think she needs me getting in touch for that).
It's for a bit of a break from RL beforestilton.
VinegarTits - But the funny threads are when something happens to someone (which I will of course share the moment sth happens in RL) or......when they ask about aibu but now these all seem to descend into pc slanging matches. Not blaming you for my boredom just asked for some alternatives but clearly should not have had the timerity to do so!

Just hide the whole AIBU topic. MN seems a much calmer place in general when you do that.
