Flouncers' corner

Having a little flounce, in the meantime here are the answers to all those important MN debates....

Am skulking around in flouncer's corner, for no particular reason other than feeling a bit MNed out, and have decided to give you all the benefit of my wisdom on the slanging matches lively debates I have observed and participated in over the last 12 months. Here goes:-(drum roll)

SAHM v WOHM

This is the original no win situation. Whatever you are doing, if you are happy, lovely, carry on doing it. Please do not attempt to persuade anyone that your way is right and theirs is wrong, you will offend (and be offended). For the record, I now accept that SAHM are not all watching Jeremy Kyle all day, and submit that WOHM are not all frigid ice queens who are devoid of maternal feeling. End of.

Abortion

See above - your opinions are going to be coloured by upbringing, personal experience, culture, religion etc to a degree which makes it impossible to have anything approaching a proper debate, because no one is going to change their view on this.

Please consider the possibility however, that those who gently submit the view that they feel morally queasy about the idea are not all mad, creationist, Sarah Palin voting, woman hating idiots.

Bfing v FFing

Do as you will. If you can't or don't want to BF, you know what, your baby will survive. But please don't ask MN as a whole to endorse the view that the two are therefore completely nutritionally equal because, as a whole, MN is not going to.

"I think my husband is having an affair"

You know what? You know him, we don't. If you think he is shagging someone else, then he is. Or he is about to.

I thank you.

I like the idea of deflouncing (sp) but I would have to get to the point of flouncing first.

slayerette · 15/10/2008 20:52

Now, Georgimama, you're just not trying hard enough. Never mind those piffling little topics you've mentioned already, sort out the following:

Strictly v X-Factor

David Tennant v Christopher Eccleston
(and Billie Piper v Catherine Tate - no-one counts whatshername in the middle)

Morelli v Ranger (for the Janet Evanovich fans)

Sex v nice cup of tea

Rhubarb · 15/10/2008 20:53

Because I'm feeling argumentative?

georgimama · 15/10/2008 20:53

"So perhaps you should put that not everyone who sends their kids to state schools would ever go private even if they did have the choice, because some people still do care about the wider community!"

I covered that bit with "except the lefties, who are all nuts".

OP posts:
georgimama · 15/10/2008 20:56

I know how poor Tana Ramsay was feeling now!

What about GF vs the world?

No way, I'm not getting sued. Tracy Hogg is dead though so I feel safe saying the Baby Whisperer books are mad.

C-section is ok vs c-section is EVIL?

You would have to pay me so much money to have a C section other than by force of obstetrician, so all power to anyone who has one thinking it's the "soft" option. Of course, no one actually does.

OP posts:
Rhubarb · 15/10/2008 20:57

I think you'll find the term there is 'socialists'

Look, I did try to liven up the Bonfire Night thread!

georgimama · 15/10/2008 20:58

Strictly v X-Factor

Strictly - can't stand Cheryl Cole. Not much point without the lovely Anton de Becke for a second series in a row though - STOP GIVING HIM DUFF PARTNERS!!!

David Tennant v Christopher Eccleston
(and Billie Piper v Catherine Tate - no-one counts whatshername in the middle)

What am I doing with them?
Billie definitely.
David or Christopher - can I have both in a lovely sandwich?

Morelli v Ranger (for the Janet Evanovich fans)

Eh? Is this a style and beauty thing? Not my bag, baby. Barely even pluck my eyebrows these days.

Sex v nice cup of tea

Wine. And a foot rub.

slayerette · 15/10/2008 21:00

'I know how poor Tana Ramsay was feeling now' - do elaborate for those among us who missed that particular boat!

No nothing lurid, just the webchat, she was a trooper and gamely ploughed through many many demands for information about her personal and domestic life. She came across as quite good fun.

You should try to do what I did.

I hid all but 5 minor and "safe" topics (such as camping, education, etc). My active convos therefore just had 3-4 threads. Effective?

Yes.

But I was going bananas at the thought off that was happening in chat/aibu. You will soon move out of Flouncers corner again. Trust me.

QuintessenceOfFrankenShadow · 15/10/2008 21:07

ahhh... Morelli any time. (Ranger too, especially in the shower....)

georgimama · 15/10/2008 21:11

Morelli v Ranger (for the Janet Evanovich fans)

Someone explain this to me, please. Is this a style and beauty thing, or some illicit sexual practice enjoyed by Quintessence in the shower? I have to know.

Sorry missed one earlier about routine nutters v hippies - they'll both reap what they sow. Benign neglect seems best.

OP posts:
QuintessenceOfFrankenShadow · 15/10/2008 21:17

No. Ranger is not a sexual practice enjoyed by QS, regrettably.

Morelli is the steady, good looking good cop who is in love with the main character and they are always on the verge of dating. (they did as teenagers, though, but that doesnt count)

Ranger is the dark mysterious ex army type guy, a seasoned bodyhunter, muscular, silent, and the maincharacter lusts after him, understandably. He knows it, plays up to it, and leave her..... dripping.

slayerette · 15/10/2008 21:19

Janet Evanovich has written a series of comic crime novels set in New Jersey featuring a bounty hunter called Stephanie Plum. She has an on-off boyfriend, cop Joe Morelli (v sexy Italian-American) and an occasional romantic encounter with a fellow bounty hunter, Ranger, a devilishly sexy Cuban? Puerto Rican? MNetters are divided on the subject and usually end up opting for both

QuintessenceOfFrankenShadow · 15/10/2008 21:20

bounty hunter was the word I was looking for, not body. See, I have repressed the word BOUNTY quiet successfully!

georgimama · 15/10/2008 21:21

In what pray tell? Is this something on the television? I stopped watching that.

OP posts:
georgimama · 15/10/2008 21:22

ooh xposted. Is a reading thing. I don't get to read anymore. I suppose I could read rather than MN.

Any more burning issues for GM to solve? I'll address anything.

OP posts:
slayerette · 15/10/2008 21:26

What would be the best super-power to have?

QuintessenceOfFrankenShadow · 15/10/2008 21:27

Oh, I dont know. But I have just watched IronMan, and my old crush for Robert Downey Jr has been rekindled.

cmotdibbler · 15/10/2008 21:28

Ranger - any time. Anywhere in fact hmmmmmmm. Ahem.

georgimama · 15/10/2008 21:30

Superpowers (haven't seen Heroes apart from first episode so this may not be relevant)

I think precogniscance (is that how you spell it?) I would buy a lottery ticket, every Saturday, with the winning numbers. And know everything there is to know, in advance. Sorted.

OP posts:
slayerette · 15/10/2008 21:34

Ooh - that's a good one. I (having watched more than a few episodes of Charmed) always felt that I'd quite like to be able to 'orb'. Telekinesis seems fun too.

QuintessenceOfFrankenShadow · 15/10/2008 21:41

I think I would settle for simply being Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Lurcio · 15/10/2008 21:42

I agree Quint, Robert Downey Jr is gorgeous!
