Flouncers' corner

Nasty smelly dirty hotel room

We are booked into a pub with rooms in Cornwall. £135 a night. We are here for two nights as we are going to a 70th party nearby.

It's unbelievably scruffy. Rooms stink (the glade plug in went out of the window as soon as we walked in as I react to them and now we realise why, the room smells of sewage).

Dirty, cobwebs everywhere and a really nasty stain on the chair in the room, who knows what. Loo brush covered in..well you can imagine. Really horrible crappy furniture. Horrible old uncomfortable bed.

We booked in this afternoon but didn't eat here as the last table was at 19:30. I was determined to come back tonight and complain. Half nine, came back and place dark. No one available.

To flounce, in the morning or not? We are incredibly lucky to get away, I get that. But £135 a night for what is, frankly , a shithole is taking the piss. I think we should ask for a change of room or for the room to be cleaned and the stained chair removed.

I am still suffocating with the glade plug in despite it now being outside on the windowsill. I am not sure which is worse, sewage or that stink.

I would complain , politely but firmly , give them the chance to put things right .
It bugs me no end when people complain about things but never give the vendor / owner / staff a chance to put things right .
If they refuse . cant / wont ,ake amends by either moving you to a better room / refunding at last part of the fee , then yes by all means kick up a bloody big stink

( then hand them the glade to get rid of the stink Grin )

I really like the way you've interpreted the 'Flouncers' Corner' topic as a topic specifically for people who might be thinking of flouncing from a rubbish hotel room*

Is it worth flouncing for the sake of two nights? Complain and see what they do - you could perhaps ask for a discount if they can't move you to a decent room.

  • Flouncers' Corner is intended for people thinking of leaving Mumsnet, in case you didn't know. Grin
