Worrying trend of bad manners and rude

I am appalled by the behaviour of many members of the forums, it seems to me that you cannot express a view or an opinion without being subjected to quite objectionable comments. The language which to be quite honest if said in public would be almost abuse. I had thought that intelligent, thoughtful and reflective conversation was the aim, but would seem that due to a significant number of people this is not possible. There seems an almost constant need to personalise discussion in order to shout down and make accusations. My views are from a few years of using the forums. The original aim of the website was excellent it is a pity that so many people feel the need to leave or are wary of expressing a view, I feel quite sad that a social media is being hijacked.

Not sure whether flouncing or complaining. Just really disappointed I suppose, I fully appreciate that writing is a difficult way to covey what you say as there is no intonation or body language but many comments on any threads are rude

Yes. I got a horrid response yesterday regarding a general parenting question. Massive assumption was made about how I was to blame as I shout at her (I don't).

Some parts are worse than others. Aibu and step parenting can be awful

Tron123 how long have you actually been a member of mn? Cause not all parts of it are the way you're describing and tbh if you're going to post something as stupid as thinking showing high school aged children information on LGBT is inappropriate you are going to get a lot of flack for it.

That being said, we're all adults too. If we swear then we swear, if we don't then we don't. If you can't hack it there's a lovely site that has pink glittery shit covering it where no swearing is allowed.

I think Onwards that you have hit the nail on the head, it is the assumption that that you think this... Or you do that .... And that anyone can then say anything as they know nothing about you, your history or in many cases consider the context. There seems to be quite a bit of baiting as well, i think a number of posters want a verbal fight! I am choosing to ignore that type of post... Vey disappointing

Lots of baiting, and lots of completely mad fantasising about what the OP actually thinks or means or does. And an apparent inability to understand the words the OP has written in their posts.
