First Betta.

We had neon tetra in a 34l tank (I know, but we were very novice)

Lost the last tetra about a month ago, so rescaped the tank (adding driftwood and more new plants, and getting rid of the previous tacky ornaments)

Got this boy today. Said I wasn't going to get a red crown tail but ended up going for personality - this guy was super chill in the store, but he's actually perked up a lot since joining us.

I never knew there was a fish topic on Mumsnet !
I know very little about fish but that's one cool looking guy.
Hello Dragon 🙂

Hello dragon

He's beautiful OP, last one I had kept herding the loaches so they had to stay under their log. These little Betta fish certainly have massive personalities

We had three remaining cherry shrimp and were a bit worried he'd be a shrimp killer but he's left them alone so far.

I thought they were ok with shrimp?

Some aren't. You don't know until you try

That's very true! I hope they all get along

A good looking chap!

They are usually better with shrimp if the shrimp are in the tank first - it's when you add new shrimp to their established territory they end up viewed more as snacks!

I didn't know there is a ' fish ' page either, but this thread is in the top 10 threads if one searches in ' talk ' latest 100 posts

Ours went through a phase of eating the shrimp babies but now the plants have grown in he leaves them alone. I have his tank next to my desk and he spends the day sleeping in the weirdest positions. It's actually my partner's tank but he moved it to my room while he was reorganising and I refused to give it back.

Update:

He's very curious and such a little character.
He comes straight to the front of the tank to greet us as we come down the stairs in the morning, or when we come through the front door ☺️
