Moving fish to new tank

Hi there,

we got gifted a small 20l tank in January and got a few danios and a platy. They are doing very well but wanted a bigger tank for them, so we got an 80l.

we filled it a week ago and have had the filter running, added tap safe and added some quick start. Today we moved the fish, as per advice from pets at home, I moved the filter from the old tank also, so I now have to two filters going.

how long should I leave the small one from the old tank running for before letting the new big filter take over? Also any advice/tips so we don’t lose any fish from the stress of the move would be really appreciated :)

thank you

I would leave the two filters running together for a month. Depending on the size and type of filter, you could instead put the filter media from the small tank into the same casing as the new filter alongside the new media - this will clone it. You need to be careful not to over stuff the filter and reduce water flow though.
