New tank, noisy filter

Hi everyone. After a bit of advice. We have bought ourselves a 60 litre tank which has a plastic lid, and it came with all the accessories. When we plugged the filter in, it gave off an annoyingly pitched buzz. The water trickling plus an air stone didn’t dampen the noise. So we bought a new filter, an interpet pf1. This is better but still we are getting a buzzing. If the filter is next to the glass on its holder it buzzes, but if it sits in the middle of the water it is quiet there, so it must be the glass making the buzz echo. I’ve tried putting Vaseline on the spinner inside, still no change. We’ve tried wedging the lid up slightly to stop the lid vibrating. It’s driving me crackers this noise.

Has anyone got any hacks or ideas we could try to quieten the buzz (it’s not the water flow it’s the internal workings)??

Oh, and our water is still cloudy 3 days on...should I ignore or get some filter safe chemicals?? Obviously we have zero fish as the tank is cycling.

Thanks all x

What are you using as an ammonia source to cycle the tank?
