Axolotl are they high maintenance?

My son has been doing research and is really keen to look into getting 1/2 - if they are better in pairs.
I wondered if anyone with any experience could advise what the daily care/ maintenance is.

Go over to the Facebook groups they are a world of advice. Slightly more high maintenance than fish but nothing extreme.

The caudata forum is great, lots of info & factsheets. I learnt so much from there, axolotl care is similar to newts which I've started keeping.

Here's our axolotl named Sal.

We've had them (not sure if he/she) for around 14 years! And doesn't seem to need too much care.
