Filter on all night? It's a bit noisy.

I have just got some endler guppies in a tank. The tank's filter has been running for a couple of weeks and our water was approved by a boy in a shop and kids are well chuffed.

But I've read the advice not to turn the filter off, and that fish don't like loud noises. This must be like trying to sleep next to a generator at a rave.

What to do?

Far too soon for cycling to be complete unless you seeded your filter with some mature media from elsewhere? Yes, you do need to keep the filter on 24/7.

I don't even know what seeding is. It turned out that the filter was so noisy because it wasn't working properly.

As soon as I realised

.... what the filter and pump were supposed to do I realised it wasn't working.

Have a new one up and running now.
