Interesting, hardy fish for my 3yr old?

Hi all. We have just set up a new 125l tropical freshwater tank and are letting it settle before adding fish. We've just done a big house (and country) move so we got the tank as a little project/housewarming gift for DD. Can anyone suggest some good starter fish for us that are fairly hardy? I would like to avoid immediate heartbreak so don't want to pick something pretty but delicate! She really liked the neon tetra in the shop so I was thinking a little group of those but would like a few bigger fish that might be interesting to watch. Thanks!

How about a Betta? We have one with a small shoal of 6 glow light tetras. He has a betta log so he can hang out on the surface and the tetras swim round the tank.

Shrimp.

Colourful, quite active and can get a few in even a smallish tank.

Thanks! Both things I hadn't thought of! Shrimp would be something a bit different
