Fishnet

On holiday for 2 weeks

We are going away for 2 weeks and I am trialing a combination of slow release fish food block that dissolves in the water, and tablets that they are supposed to much on. It doesn't appear to be going that well.

We have 5 gouramis, 3 neon tetras, 2 guppies and 9 black mollies (5 of whom are still juveniles - Tip For The Day: do not get live bearers!!). the mollies appear to be monopolising everything.

All our responsible fish-savvy friends are also away during that period. I could get the guy from the aquarium to pop in a couple of times, but if I can avoid paying £50 a pop, I'd prefer to.

Any suggestions?

Can you not get a neighbor to pop in every other day. Are there live plants in the tank too that they can eat as well?

TheUterati · 18/03/2017 15:56

No live plants - silk only.

Neighbour option not really available.

Sorry nothing helpful to add but i will watch with interest as we have the same problem in july.

Mum2jenny · 18/03/2017 16:02

Get some real plants which the fish will eat when hungry.

TheUterati · 18/03/2017 16:09

Mum - not a bad idea. Anything that is particularly munchable? (I know nothing about plants - hence silk.)

In case anyone is interested, I got this:

<a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000A216C4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">//www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000A216C4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Experimented to get the 'dose' right before we left and it worked brilliantly! Everyone survived. So much so that I came back to 4 new baby mollies (which I am less than pleased about TBH, as we are in danger of being overrun with them...)
