cleaning an old tank

I've been given an old fish tank and need to clean it before setting it up. What is the best way to do this? Would bleach be too strong even if I rinse it out really well?

Bleach will damage the sealant and is difficult to remove afterwards. Don't do it.

Use vinegar and hot (not boiling) water. To soften any hardened scale you can soak a paper towel and paste it on. Leave for a few hours then scrub it off.

Rinse really well with plenty of water before setting it up.

Salt and vinegar.

Salt as an abrasive to scour the glass etc.

Vinegar, acid to kill germs.

Both of which rinse away easily and don't leave residue to harm your fish.
