How to stop keeping fish?

GermyJamie · 03/08/2014 07:42

We have a 90 litre ish tropical tank. Have a mish mash of fish as we inherited some:
1 golden barb
5 cherry barbs
1 yellow tailed live bearer
2 tetras

Not sure on specifics as we didn't buy most of them.

We've had enough. Our fish tank cabinet seems to be on its last legs and we'd like to stop and get rid of the tank.

Any suggestions about how we go about doing this?

Advertise them on free cycle and give them to responsible fish owners. We had lots of responses when we moved house.

Im not sure you can advertise animals on freecycle? But I put my fish and tanks on our free intranet work noticeboard and they were snapped up within minutes of me posting the ad.

Some Freecycles allow animals, some don't. Facebook is full of fish buy and sell pages and also fish rescue pages so if you're on there, have a look. Some areas have aquatic clubs although these seem to be going the way of the dodo. Worth looking though. If you're in Cambs then I could squeeze in the cherry barbs.

Hope you find nice homes for them :) You obviously care about them a lot, you wouldn't believe the number of people that would just flush them.

Advertise on a fish forum.

Thank you so much for all the replies. We ended up having a day out today so only just getting a chance to look at this.

I definitely want them to go to someone who is experienced in keeping fish. We live fairly rurally so there may not be many fish forum members close to us but I will check.

I did it in free cycle 4 years ago. There were so many replies it was easy to find a genuine fish keeper.
