Cleaning terapin's water

DD is using cholorine in the terapin's water but she's run out and we can't Get any Ășntil the weekend.

Is there anything else she could use, any type of houshold product?

Are you sure she's not using a chlorine neutralising solution? Because putting chlorine in with water life makes them pretty ill.
If you need good water for changes you can fill some buckets and leave them for 24 hours so the chlorine dissipates, or use rain water.

Yes, I don't think she would be adding chlorine! Rain water's probably your best bet. Most water companies use chloramine rather than chlorine now and it doesn't evaporate like chlorine used to.

Not sure if pH is as important to terrapins as it is to fish so you might want to check that. When's the last time she cleaned him?

If there's a big supermarket near you then they might stock dechlorinater, my local big tesco does.

Ooh, thanks for the chlorine/chloramine info Eau! Makes me glad I've not had to resort to filling buckets for a good few years.

I remember the days of having buckets of water lying around everywhere Grin

Mogz · 14/11/2013 10:06

Aaah the nostalgia. My cats used to be so impressed when bucket time rolled round, one once tried to leap from the coffee table to the sofa and didn't quite make it, SPLASH!

AdoraBell · 15/11/2013 14:58

Maybe it is a neutralizar then, she's using what the Pet shop advised. Sorry To be so dimBlush

No rain water available for about 9 months now, we're abroad.

Last cleaned yesterday, normaly the water is changed every other day with Two drops of the fluid, but she's doing it daily Ășntil we can Get the stuff (tech term)
