My dd is only just 4. We got her a pet goldfish a few weeks ago. I have just got home from work and put flakes into the tank only to see he is dead......... my dd has not been into her play room yet.. what do I tell her please? Also have not removed him yet as wasn't sure whether to involve her in the burial process?!!

Hard to say- my eldest could just about understand death at that age and wanted to be involved in burials (I used to just compost the dead stick insects!) but all children are different. Has your DD ever heard anything about death in a story or TV programme, a relative passing or anything like that?

How big is the tank and did you fully cycle it before adding any fish?
