how often should I be feeding my goldfish??

I tend to feed them every day or at least every other day a mixture of pellets, algae wafer things and shelled cooked peas. My neighbour (who has tropicals) says I am over feeding them and killing them!! They look very healthy to me in their lovely new big tank so I think he is talking rubbish but thought I should check jus in case.

Eau - I cleaned the 190 litre tank out in 30 mins....just changed 30 litres of water, was much easier than I thought :)

If you're only feeding them as much as they can eat in a couple of minutes (and scooping out the rest) then you're not overfeeding them. A lot of goldfish keepers have one day a week where they are not fed. Generally larger fish can go for longer periods between feeds than smaller fish, so if you were going away for a weekend then they would be fine.

People often panic about overfeeding goldfish- but that's probably down to the fact that the vast majority of goldfish are kept in a tank that's too small. Too much food can quickly mess up the water and then it's curtains for the poor fish, and the death is blamed on overfeeding rather than sub-optimal living conditions.

Also keeping goldfish in ponds is different because of the lower temperatures- in a tank, a goldfish's metabolism doesn't slow right down in the winter.

Glad the new tank is going well! Sounds like you've got the water changing sorted. You can do larger water changes if you want, or if the fish need it.

Believe me, there is no food left over to fish out :)

I swear my black moorfish has got bigger since he was moved to the new tank, he is a monster.

I think I will do 30 litre water change regularly and then once a month or two I will do maybe a bigger one if I think they need it.

When my black moorish was in the first ridiculously small tank he used to get white spot every time we water changed, since going into even the 60 litre and now 190 litre tank he has coped really well and we have had no problems with him at all.

I chucked the 21 litre tank in the bin, best place for it!
