baby corys!!

i had two corys, they were so big and huge they looked like barrels with fins no babies from them.

I bough some more so that they had a little group and I have just seem my huge female lay loads of eggs!!!! i am so excited, i moved them hopefully undamaged to a fry tank that sits in the main tank, they are all now on a big leaf.

she still seems rather busy, so i think she is off laying more!

what next???

Ooh, exciting! What sort of corys are they?

You'll need to keep the fry extra-clean so lots of water testing and extra changes if needs be. They will need small and frequent meals. A lot like baby humans but they won't keep you awake at night. You can get special fry food that's high in protein and small enough for them to eat.

Once they are big enough to not get eaten by the adults they can be released into the main tank.

bronze corys! she has laid more, so I collected them because the bloody guppy was eating them!

how long until they hatch? how much is she likely to lay?

my female fighters and frank (my male fighter) are circling the baby tank!

do they need it to be hotter or cooler to hatch?

will they be ok in my fry tank thing? it is the one where it is all plastic and has a 'V' shaped partition to put mum in and the fry are ment to drop to the bottom. will they be ok in there?

i have also just read about anti fungus?!

My mum managed it successfully in her tanks he had panda corys and they had babies, loads survived - she did absolutely nothing!!! Left the eggs and that was it.
Me, i bought a separate tank, new filter heater all that. Moved the eggs over - NOTHING!! Only thing i can think of is that they actually werent fertilized.

Cant really add much, i know a quick water temp drop gets them in the mood and you must have happy fishies. But thats all i can add! Sorry not much help!

ah! I did have a sudden temp drop because my heater broke! ophs! every cloud and all that!

Well I have put some in special baby tank, and left some where they are. she has laid lots on the new heater and cleverly laid some in franks (male fighter) area of the tank, where no one else is allowed to go!! and fortunately he is a fussy eater!

from the flurried and horny activity in my tank, they are not done yet!!

Don't worry too much about fungus, some fish eggs are more susceptible to it than others. Just keep the water clean and the water flowing, if you have a variable flow on your filter then you might want to turn it up a bit (but not so much that your betta can't swim!). The eggs will take about 3-7 days to hatch and then another day or so to become free-swimming.

They'll be OK in the breeding trap for a while, if you get a lot of fry then you might need another one or two to prevent overcrowding. They'd also appreciate some cover, a bit of java moss or some salvinia would be fine for them to hide in.

the filter does not have any other speeds! but i do have two bubble stick things and that keeps it moving nicely.

My poor eggs outside of the baby tank have now been eaten except the ones on the heater.

Frank and his betta biatches are circling my baby tank! evil sods.

on another note, I wonder if you can advise me on the best type of under gravel filter for a 150L tank? my current filter is rubbish!

if they all hatch I will send you some!! I will be over run! do what i did, get some new ones (corys) , break your heater, don't realise until the next morning, put in a heater ment for a smaller tank, raise temp slowly!!
