What fish should I get?

I've just been given a small tank, I would like to keep a single fish in it... I'm thinking maybe a siamese fighter, is there anything else similar that doesnt mind being on it's own?

I had a Siamese fighter in a 5g planted Tank, he was lovely! So clever and used to recognize me Smile and do little bubble nests etc.

That is exactly what I would suggest! Nothing else springs to mind, because presumably you also need something which stays small.

That's what I'll get then! I'm going to treat myself to a really nice one - can anyone recommend an online fish shop?

What about dwarf puffers, has anyone got any experience of these?

I got dwarf puffers and I love them. So much personality. They watch my every move and as soon as I get out their food it's party time in the tank and they swim up and down like excited little kids. Just be aware that they don't eat dry food, it has to be frozen or live and you need to give them live snails to keep them happy.

My dh told me he had a dwarf puffer once, and another fish bit it and died, because they are poisonous? May not be true though - he does spout some random stuff at times. They are so cute, zooming around their tanks! I wanted to get one once but the fish shop man told me to steer clear as they are so aggressive (he alleged). But whether agressive, poisonous or both, it shouldn't matter if you only have one.

This is why you should keep dwarf puffers on their own as they are aggressive little shits. But so cute! The only companies they could have (but it's a risk) are otos or ghost shrimps, but you need a tank big enough with many hiding places.
