We got a 'brush nose' plec a few days ago...he's brilliant!!!
He's doing a sterling job with algae cleaning on some stones, etc...he's a busy guy!! ...he's about 3ins at the moment and will grow to just 6ins at fully grown....
Thought I might give him a cooked pea or 2 today....as a wee treat

Do ALL plecs like cockles and mussels though?...it's a recommended food for many of them so I wonder if I should go and get some frozen pieces for him???

What do you think????

They are cute, aren't they? :)

Cockles and mussels? I'd go easy on the high protein stuff, they should mainly be eating veg. This is a good article. They certainly don't need shellfish to stay healthy.

yea...my ref book for species and what not has recommendations for shell fish for plecs....I'd never heard of it before either...probably won't bother and I'll get him some sinking tabs...he's got enough to be eating just now anyway

Still might give him a pea though...wondering how to sink a pea now hahahahaha!!!

He will need some protein but it doesn't have to be shellfish if it's hard to get hold of. There are some other ideas for sources of protein in that article.

Cooked, shelled peas should sink on their own. If you want to feed him a chunk of something (cucumber usually goes down pretty well) then just skewer it on a teaspoon and drop it in.
