My goldfish the twunt! Near biorb catastrophe...

He swam right down to the bottom of the filter tube of my biorb this evening.

Was chatting to DP and noticed him out the corner of my eye!
Luckily I was able to unclip the filter and reverse him out again...but can anyone tell me - if it happens again and I'm not here in a superhero cape to come to the rescue - would he be okay if he does it again and it takes me a while to notice?

TIA Smile

Hi TeamEdward - nor me! I've had fish in there for over 4 years and this is a first Grin

Seems to be universally rare as I couldn't find anything similar happening to anyone having googled.

But - I have just found a site that sells traps for the top of the tube (like mesh I think)...think I must purchase as I can't relax and keep glancing over at the tank!

Crikey, that must have been pretty scary Shock Has he got any scrapes or scales missing? Goldfish get too big for biorbs, how old is he now?

threestepsforward · 01/08/2012 09:48

TeamEdward, I did find stuff on the web about smaller fish going down there, perhaps they did go down there?

Stealth, Sad that's what I'm worried about... But tube cap is on its way.

Eaurouge he's not big enough to fit 'snuggly' down the tube, but he couldn't have turned around so he would have been there until I noticed.

There are 2 of them in there and it's a 60 litre and plenty big enough I think for the moment. I will have a plan in place for when they grow bigger Smile

I'd recommend the Tube Guard to anyone, for peace of mind if anything! It's only a few quid on e-bay and free delivery

Meant to add he seems fine this morning. No obvious scrapes or anything.
I work next to them and they are as interested in my morning as they always are Grin
