Would a goldfish be ok not being fed for a few days?

Going away from Saturday til Monday possibly Tuesday. Will the fish be ok if we fed her Saturday morning then nothing til we get back? I have one of those holiday feeding blocks but I have a suspicion that they will be too big for one fish and will mess up the water condition loads.

Hmm, could a neighbour not pop in Sunday evening and feed it?

How big is it? If it's a youngster then it might get hungry but an adult fish can go for a bit longer. It won't starve to death in 3 days, when fish are shipped to the UK from the farms in SE Asia then they are not fed for the duration to keep the ammonia level down.

About 3 years old - around 14cm nose to tail tip (it's a fancy goldfish if that makes any difference?)

Could you break off a little bit of the feeding block?

StripyMagicDragon · 31/05/2012 17:53

It'll be fine. My fish werent fed for 3 days while we were away and they were fine. They were happy to be fed though!

Thanks all. Neighbour coming in not a possibility unfortunately. Think I will just risk it with no food til we get back.

What about one of those slow release food things from aquatics/pet shop?

You could get an auto-feeder, they're a much better option than those holiday blocks. I've tried 3 different ones and the eheim one was the only one that was any good. They are pricey but you might be able to get a second hand one on ebay.

If you have a juwel, tank the auto feeders for them are also very good
