My filter is rattling?

Just cleaned out my tank (well 60% change and vacumed the gravel), gave the filter a clean and scrubbed the outside (the bits mr pleco has missed), put it all back together and now its making a rattling sound, have checked it over and everything seems to be put back in ok. Any ideas?

Have you checked the impeller? They can get dislodge if air is in or something like that.

I don't know how too, its only a small elite 15 filter, it just got really noisy but has calmed down a bit now but still rattling . If it goes bang how long can the fish survive without a filter (i wont be able to get one until tomorrow)? Fingers crossed it will settle down and be ok.

Ah, I don't think they have an impeller. Hm, really don't know what to suggest, maybe someone else will come along.
They can survive til tomorrow, but check water stats tonight and if anything goes up (ammonia, nitirite) then do another water change and one in the morning. The problem is that your bacteria will start to die off, so the sooner you can get it the better. And then add the media (the foam) into the new filter so you don't have to go through a full cycle again.

I think all filters have an impeller don't they? There should be a way to clean it. You could buy a replacement one if yours is knackered but try cleaning it first. It should say in the instructions how to do it (you might have to take the sponge out and peer inside). I usually do mine very gently with a cotton bud. Replacement impeller
