Was fine when I got in from work at 4pm. Swimming around normally.

Just looked over at the tank and he's keeled over and is dead and floating

Sad

RIP Arthur.

Will Merlin be lonesome now?

Lots of reasons, hard to tell without a post mortem! Water quality might give a clue, have you got a water test kit? How big is the tank? When's the last water change you did and how did you clean the filter?

Goldfish can live on their own, Merlin should be fine.

did a change 2 weeks ago, rinsed the filter in the removed water. nothing different from usual. it has got more algaed recently (it's v bright in that corner of the kitchen),and was planning on a bit of a scrub tomorrow (my day off).

poor fishy. fine one minute, all floaty the next.

Face it, Merlin is a murderer.

DameHermione · 16/04/2012 19:15

he's pretty bloody good then. the perfect, undetectable murder. there wasn't a sigle mark on Arthur (poor poor Arthur). no spots, no stripes, even his back fin was still sticking up. He looked in excellent condition. except he was dead.

2 weeks is a long time between water changes, the filter bacteria should have been fine though. How big is the tank?

DameHermione · 16/04/2012 20:21

I'd leave him for a day or so just in case he's faking it.

(One of mine used to do this all the time, how he wasn't flushed the first time I'll never know ok it was because I was too lazy to 'fish' him out till the next day, bloody lucky I'm a slob, wasn't he? )
