Just one now :( In the past I've had-

40 gall fancy goldfish tank
Same tank but with tropical community

12 gall with corys and peacock gobies
Same tank but with celestial pearl danios

30 gall-ish tank that has been used as a nursery for various fish babies, then the corys went in there for a bit.

10 gall that has been used for all sorts of transient fish, stuff I've looked after temporarily for other people/nursed back to health etc.

5 gall shrimp tank.

What I would like in the future is an enormous tank for Mbuna cichlids. Or a massive SE Asian Amano-style tank.

Ooh, nice. You couldn't put much in it because of the volume/surface area ratio but it would look cracking with a big bit of tree root up the middle with loads of java fern and anubias growing on it.

Just one at the moment Sad

Two Goldie's and two WCMMs.

Got rid of my tropical community tank when pg with DS1, but I have built a tank support into my fitted shelving in the front room all ready for the next one (DS2 is still a newborn, once he is at nursery I'm going to start setting up again Grin)

Also used to have a betta in his 5g planted hex tank, he was gorgeous but sadly died after two years when I went on holiday and my friend overfed him I haven't quite forgiven her yet Sad I'm thinking of a similar setup for my kitchen table at some point as my betta was really sociable!

Well, I am now the proud owner of three. Got a bargain on ebay that I simply couldn't resist Blush :)

At the moment most of it is still work in progress (cycling), but by the end of the month all should be complete and I will have:

10 gallon betta tank (currently a fry tank, but they will be moved at Easter)

30 gallon tropical community tank (platies, guppies, cories, minnows, shrimps)

25 gallon community tank (this is the new tank) which will have a pair of bolivian rams, a pair of pearl gouramis (done my research, they should be happy together), a shoaling fish that I can't decide on yet

This fish business is seriously addictive Grin

I have found space for a small tank, what size tank would a 'Japanese fighting fish' need? Grin

5 gallon is enough for a betta, some people say 2.5 gallon. But with 5 you have enough room to add some live plants / rocks / whatever you fancy.

Grumpla · 03/04/2012 18:04

Oh yes I wouldn't go smaller than a 5g. Although they can survive in very small containers it's cruel to do so IMO. In a 5g you have more room
For some nice decor and you are more likely to see happy Betta behaviour like bubble nest building and waggle dancing, mine could recognize me Smile and HATED the cat (who never even noticed him) he was a proper little character as well as being very pretty.

Will keep my eye out for a square tank (i have a strong oak table to put it on), i just wont tell dh (he says 'no more animals or fish' Smile (i always get my way in the end).

Well I have 2 at the moment. Did have 3 but have just sold one. Have just set up a 100g marine tank (bargin off a marine fishkeeping forum) which is cycling so no fish yet but planning on at least 1 triggerfish. Also have a 20g tropical in DS's bedroom home to 2 female bettas, rummynose tetras, harelquins, 2 ancient corys and a bristlenose plec.
My Dh hates the fish tanks. At one point before we moved in together I had 6 in my bedroom, 2 marine, 3 tropical and a coldwater. We had a 5 foot marine tank for a long time in our living room but had to get rid when DD was born as didn't have enough time for it and Dh won't touch them. She's now 4, I don't work (full time student) and Dh is about to start working away during the week again so decided i'd waited long enough to start up again. I'll have something to watch on an evening when there's nobody here to talk to.
