introducing a new goldfish?

oooh - first posting for me on Fishnet...

We had 2 goldfish, won at a fair nearly two years ago Hmm but sadly one died a couple of weeks ago. The other seems fine but I'm feeling sorry for him being on his own - he seems quieter somehow?

What's the best way to introduce a new goldfish - I'm not sure whether to just go and buy one and plonk him in or whether there's a better way with introducing one using some of the water etc?

Also I'm not sure how long to wait to be sure the current fish isn't poorly? I changed the water after the first fish died and current fish seems fine but how long should I wait?

Any advice much appreciated!

Hello :)

Any new fish should be quarantined for at least a couple of weeks to make sure they're not harbouring anything that could harm your existing fish. If you don't have a quarantine tank or storage box with a mature filter that you can use for this then a shop might quarantine it for you.

Two goldfish need an awful lot of space, how big is your tank? Here is a guide to figuring out what size you need.

HTH :)
