Jean de Florette is the first one where neighbour and nephew screws over Gerard Depardieu ( a genial wonderful man with a hunchback) to steal his land.
Manon is the sequel where the nephew falls in love with Gerard's beautiful daughter (played by Emanuel Beart looking just stunning). And neighbour finds out to his horror what he has done in destroying the hunchback..

blast from the past anyway. went to see those films when doing french for the leaving.

Those are two of my favourite films. I didn't realise that it was effectively one film in two parts and had just purchased Jean de Florette and was utterly outraged that it could end like that.
