Oh God I hope its not too bad I am taking DS1 for his 9th birthdya on Sat and 4 of his friends, then they are all sleeping over at ours.
Dont want a house full of boys havign bad dreams!

I think nine year old boys will be fine BUT it is quite a 'talky' film again, without loads of action scenes, so it depends how into HP they are. If they haven't read the books they may not be all that interested.

LadyGlencoraSnape · 15/07/2009 22:37

Greyback is quite scary in the film - I watched a documentary on the making of it earlier this week, but I think they were on the set of the next one in which he has a bigger role.

janeite · 15/07/2009 22:39

Yes - I think we'll see much more of him in the next one. In this one, you see a couple of growls and one chase and that's it - the inferi are scarier. They are far too Gollum-like though imho.

ILiketoMarmiteMarmite · 16/07/2009 15:44

I was there with 2 ten-year-olds yesterday, one had to cover his eyes for the inferi (which were bit nightmarish really), the other was fine. The death was saddish but ok, I don't think any of us were very affected tbh, and we were v sad when reading it.

Greyback is really evil in the books, agree he was not the worst horror in the film. HB-C was unpleasant and I found her strangely sort of sexual, all breathy and bee-stung and tongue-tippy.

Yes - HBC is becoming more and more cartoon-esque and less and less scary: totally misplayed methinks.

MrsMcCluskey · 17/07/2009 12:50

Oh no HElena Bonham Carter isnt in it is she? I cant stand her!

I thought it was great. I liked the fact there was a bit less action leaving more time to take more from the book. I think they left some really good bits out though. Like when Hermione tells the girls at the table she is going to Slughorns party with Cormac and "Harry was left to ponder the depths girls will sink to to get revenge". Think that would have been very funny.

Agree that HBC needs to be a bit more evil. But thought Alan Rickman was fab. Played it just right.

My favourite still Order of the Phoenix though.

nappyaddict · 19/07/2009 13:59

I actually wasn't that impressed with this one. The only scary bit is at the lake. I think it should have been about an hour shorter. The last hour was really good but it took too long and too much faffing around to get there. I think they could have condensed the first 2 hours.

MrsMcCluskey · 19/07/2009 14:06

was a bit overlong but the 4 nine year old boys i took loved it.
They all jumped out of their skin at the lake scene and then were giggling at each other for about 5 mins for jumping!!!

jeminthepark · 19/07/2009 14:13

It DID feel long, but we took 8 kids btween us(3 friends), the youngest were 10, oldest 12, and the kids loved it- sat transfixed.

It IS darker though in general, but that follows the books I guess, they get darker too as the kids get older.

AgentCodyBanks · 19/07/2009 14:13
