What is it with films these days?! Just left 'Me, Myself and Irene' when Jim Carrey decided to take over from a boy trying to breast feed off mum - SOOOOO HILARIOUS (not).
Also abandoned some hideous film supposed to be comedy about two flatmates making a porno to make money.

Both gems now available in our lounge.

I like films (about a 15 certificate is my limit thought) but am I so hard to please? DH thinks so!!

all jim carrey films are a bit of a no no IMO.
Except for the Mask he was good in that.

onelittletreasure · 10/07/2009 21:24

God, its dire! The ringing silence in our lounge at the so-called funny bits is painful in itself.

Any receommendations?? (apart from: Avoid J.C.!)

i cannot bear jim carrey in any so called comedy film he does

he makes my blood boil

man in the moon and the truman show i could handle

expatinscotland · 10/07/2009 21:36

No, it's not just you. I can't stand Jim Carrey but I'd rather be strapped to a chair with my eyes forced open with bamboo sticks and all his films on repeat play from now until the world ends than watch another minute of anything with Sasha Baron Cohen or his midget girlfriend in it.

Thunderduck · 10/07/2009 23:11

He was good in The Truman Show too.

poorbuthappy · 10/07/2009 23:14

Glad you explained yourself, I thought you were at the world's weirdest cinema!!!

have you seen the cable guy??

onelittletreasure · 11/07/2009 12:51

I think I might have done. If I did, it obviously made a wild impression!

I hate jim carey with a blinding passion... just not funny, ever (possibly excepting The Mask but one fluke doesn't override 20 odd pieces of shit)

Zack and Miri Make a Porno is actually quite sweet if you watch it all the way through... but i think it helps if you 'get' the Clerks/Jay and Silent Bob/Mallrats type humour before watching it though.

PortAndLemon · 14/07/2009 00:16

What films do you like / have you liked, olt?

mayorquimby · 20/07/2009 10:30

i actually really liked the two movies you have walked out of.
i'm not bothered by jim carey either way, he's had some stinkers (evan almighty, ace ventura 2) but he's also had a couple of great movies eternal sunshine, man in the moon, the mask, the cable guy.

OhBling · 20/07/2009 10:43

OLT - DH and DSisIL are seeing the Baron moving next week. I told them they were welcome to it, and I'd stay at home and watch paint dry rather than going to that movie.

So YADNBU

gorionine · 20/07/2009 10:45

I only ever liked him in The Truman show".

TsarChasm · 20/07/2009 10:50

JC fascinates me in a car-crash sort of way. He's sort of half man half cartoon - not in a good way either. He's sort of...disturbing.

Inspirachion · 20/07/2009 11:38

Bruno - it's vile vile vile!

The small gems of genius are few and far between and so overpowered by the vileness that they are not not not worth the time, money or effort.

I hope I can save at least one person from suffering this film

mayorquimby · 20/07/2009 13:19

i'm going to see it this week, although the reaction on here doesn't seem to be great.
were all those who are slating bruno/sacha baron-cohen fans of any of his other work?
because i loved most of his stuff up until now so 'm hoping it's just a matter of taste.

Inspirachion · 20/07/2009 15:46

will be interested to see what you think mayorquimby

i did enjoy the Borat one overall - though it was close to the edge for me!
