Transformers 2. A bit of a 'bloke' film if ever I've seen one!

It's a bit quick at the start so it's hard to see who are the good transformers and who are the bad ones. The main characters girlfriend's first scene is of her sprawled across a motorbike (half dressed), dog's humping each other. Main character goes off to college, all girls attractive, big 'bits'. Some mild swearing, violence (transformers killing each other buy putting their hands through their chests), rockets etc. Really is a blokes movie, not suitable for small children. too much sexual inuendo (dog's on top of each other, robot 'humping' main characters girlfriends leg, pictures of half dressed ladies in the dorm room).

I took my 11 year old to see this last night, the mother in it did make me laugh.
you forgot to mention FBGB that it went on for 2 hours and 30 minutes.. what with the trailers and all I sat in the cinema for nearly 3 hours... it was dragged out quite a bit, and I also had trouble knowing who was a goody and who was a baddy.. but then that might have been because I nodded off as son seemed to get the jist of what was going on

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 20/06/2009 18:55

Oh yes, well remembered!

The hash she ate would have gone over a few kid's head though!

They do say that the best special effect in the film is not the CGI but Megan Fox

bodiddly · 20/06/2009 19:01

Dp has just left to go and see this tonight - I guess he won't be home until late then if it is 3 hours inc trailers! Now what can I find to watch on tv that is half way decent?

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 20/06/2009 19:02

Robin hood's on BBC1.

true ... am missing primeval though! I like fairly rubbish tv on a Saturday night. Am considering seeing what films are out on demand from virgin!

LittleWhiteWolf · 21/06/2009 08:08

I watched this last night with DH and my mate. We own Transformers 1 which I found to be surprisingly good, but T2 seems to have gone too far to the boy side of things. Its very, very silly to the point of being distracting and too many new characters (inc robots) are introduced to be played for laughs. And yes, its very long. And very Michael Bay (understandably).

All that being said I'm happy to have seen it and I did enjoy it.

Oh, its classed as a 12a but neither I, DH nor my friend thought that was an appropriate classfication. The language was very colourful (imaginatively so), there were some far too racy bits and it was very, very violent. I wouldnt be happy taking children under 12 to see this film if I'm honest.

Disenchanted3 · 21/06/2009 08:09

Transformers1 is one of my favourite films ever, am looking forward to this

ABetaDad · 21/06/2009 09:05

LittleWhiteWolf - I was really annoyed by Transformers 1. Bought the DVD for DSs (8 and 6) as they liked watching the cartoon verison of transformers. However, there is no warning about the language and it is quiet adult in parts so I only let them watch it once.

I assume Transformers 2 is the same.

Jumente · 21/06/2009 09:08

Ah thankyou for this

I loved the first film - Megan Fox looks far too much like Stacey Slater for me to be able to take her seriously, but apart from that it was great.

I'll be careful about letting my 6yo see this one though if it contains more sexual references.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 21/06/2009 13:12

Ds is 10, we took his friend who's 11, the dog humping/the hash/the robot humping megan's foxs leg went over ds's head but he did ask questions about it. His friend was embarassed at these scenes though. The second movie isn't anything like the first, it should have a 15 age classification, there is some mild swearing but at one point the main character has a girl throw herself on him, he's lying on his bed with her on top of him, then a metal snake starts to come out from under her skirt, they get interupted by megan fox, then it starts to come out of her mouth and wraps it around his throat. She then turns into a metal thing. Transformers never turned into a human form IIRC, I used to watch the cartoons as a child and they were never like this.

Has anyone saw it on an Imax screen? We're booked to go on Friday night to the Glasgow one, was just wondering if it was good.

annaje · 22/06/2009 11:46

It was really really long - not good if you have fidgety kids. DH enjoyed it (can't imagine why, something to do with Megan Fox in hotpants) and I love a bit of Shia

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 22/06/2009 15:03

That army bloke was rather interesting eye candy!

LittleWhiteWolf · 22/06/2009 20:46

That bit was really naff, FluffyBunny. The fact that you saw the girls pants and the camera practically went up her crotch made me . I really would have felt uncomfortable having children with me.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 22/06/2009 21:11

Told you. Bloke flick! Not at all for children.

ABetaDad · 23/06/2009 10:48

FluffyBunny - the review in the Telegraph pretty much said the same.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 26/06/2009 10:10

What a pile of poo this was, a typical Michael Bay production though. It was complicated to follow plot wise, overblown and overlong.

Any other director would have done a better job of it.

MumHadEnough · 27/06/2009 17:43

Saw this on the Imax screen last night, would agree it was wayyyyyyyyyyy too long and a bit "over the top" (if you could possibly say such a thing about a film that is so far fetched anyway lol)

But the special fx were amazing, especially on the HUGE screen. I was impressed and felt it was value for money. DS (nearly 7) loved it and most of the things that weren't suitable for him went right over his head anyway as he lives in his own world most of the time.

cookielove · 27/06/2009 17:51

i love transformers 1 and 2, don't think it was a bloke flick and seeing as i went with 5 girls, the only one who didn't like it was the one who hadn't seen the first film so i had to explain plot bits to her and who was who, def think you should watch the 1st before the 2nd. plus my bloke didn't like it.

and last point i love shia, and bumblebee

MumHadEnough · 27/06/2009 18:42

Agree with you there cookie, I would just love Bumblebee for my own!

Some of the patter was good too!

cookielove · 27/06/2009 18:57

yes would def trade up from ka to bumblebee, and i don't even care that he's yellow

TwoIfBySea · 29/06/2009 21:01

So definitely not for 7 year olds then?

And were you aware that Primeval has been cancelled? Now we will never find out what happens next!

MumHadEnough · 01/07/2009 09:53

TIBS, my son is just coming up for 7 in 3 weeks, I had no problem with him watching it. The odd naughty word or innnuendo etc went right over his head anyway. He was only interested in the robots transforming and battling etc.

TwoIfBySea · 01/07/2009 21:41

That is why my two want to see it MHE! They love the robots. One wants the Devastator one for Christmas - it is £100!
