Sorry. I know that is harsh. But honestly, Richard Curtis...
I LOVED all the Blackadders and still laugh madly when I watch reruns on UK Gold, even though I know what's coming. 4W + 1 Funeral was funny, Notting HIll and Love Actually were going downhill and The Boat That Flopped is just such a disappointment.
Great cast, great fashion, great music - but these do not, on their own, a good film make. How about a decent script, or a coherent plot that doesn't nick its main subplot off Mamma Mia, or, ideally, both?
How about having a cast off 5 rather than 15 and being able to concentrate on properly fleshing out those characters?
How about not obsessing about the bromance rituals of middle-ageing blokes (pubs, stag nights, silly dances etc etc etc ad nauseum) and not short-changing women (over 50% of the population, Rich) by portraying the female sex as 100% man-chasing bimbos? (was the 'token' lesbian thrown in to try and make things okay? If so, it didn't work.)
Phew, I feel better now. But is anyone with me on this??
