Anyone else not that fussed about Mama Mia?

Dp and I had tried getting it all over at the reduced price but couldn't, so he bought it yesterday.
We started watching it last night and both felt the same, it was ok. The way everyone's been going on about it I thought it'd be out of this world. My mam went twice to the pictures to see it.

Anyway, think I'll see if I can sell it on ebay because it's not one I'd be bothered about seeing again.

Everyone has different tastes, so why does it matter if you don't like it. Everyone in my family loved it, surprising even my 82 yr old MIL.
I am sure there are films you like that other people don't like.

UnfortunatelyMe · 14/12/2008 16:48

I didnt expect to like it and dont like Abba and found myself tapping along and really quite enjoying the jovialness of it. (I am a miserable faced cow, this surprised me)
Wouldnt buy it though...maybe better saw at the cinema?

JollyPirate · 14/12/2008 16:50

I saw it at the cinema and tbh at the start thought "OMG this is going to be utter shite" but by the end I was singing along and loving it.
Also helped that the two women directly behind me went into hysterics every time Pierce Brosnon opened his mouth to sing.

ggirlsbells · 14/12/2008 16:53

big pile of shite im

only watched about 30 mins then had to turn it off

RubyRedfort · 14/12/2008 16:56

me
i was bored.
too much jumping off things and " ooh arent middle aged women fUNNY" vibes.

cyLENTeeNIGHT · 14/12/2008 16:57

although i love Abba and so enjoyed the music, i thought the film was embarrassingly dreadful. even julie walters made me cringe.

JollyPirate · 14/12/2008 16:58

Won't be buying the film.

It's going for over £11?? Why would anyone want a second hand one for that price? I hope they pay.

Delivered to the door. Why not

Fennel · 16/12/2008 21:57

I thought it was dire, and I like abba music and Greek island scenery and several of the actors in it. But the story (sic) was appalling.

JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 16/12/2008 22:02

yes but it's free delivery with play.com.
Up to 12.50 now?

I love Greek scenery too and some of the actors.

JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 16/12/2008 22:05

Ahhh that's maybe it then, good thinking.

TsarHumbug · 16/12/2008 22:06

It was ok. I wouldn't want to see it again I don't think. The singing was dire, but I'm assuming it was meant to be?

Saw it at the cinema and 'laydees of a certain age' were stood up joining in. Ridicularse

stillenacht · 16/12/2008 22:07

Nope haven't seen it - and not fussed either

undervalued · 16/12/2008 22:27

Pierce Brosnan singing - wrong on sooooo many levels. I seen it in July and still have nightmares..... lovely scenery though

Sazisi · 16/12/2008 22:29

I didn't expect to like it at all, but really enjoyed it, got carried away with the whole Abba vibe
(and I never much liked Abba)

Yes I know plenty of people DO love it or else it wouldn't have flown off the shelves, just wondered who else didn't care for it much.

Contrived is the word that springs to minde for me... i love abba but the thought of watching meryl streep dancing around in a pair of dungies is frightful... mark kermodes review of it sums it all up for me...
"The (surely parodic?) plot is a poptastic pile-up of Abba song titles in which a young chiquitita says, 'I do, I do, I do, I do, I do' to her honey honey but then faces her Waterloo because her ageing dancing queen mamma mia doesn't know which man after midnight gave her gave her gave her a child, so she must take a chance on three potential dads (sadly, none of whom are named Fernando) to see which winner will take it all up the aisle on the big day. Voulez vous?"
can't bear a plot that is deliberately twisted around just to fit in the song titles... eeeek!
