Help, oh mumsnetters.

Trying to organise DS1's birthday outing - he'd like to see Prince Caspian.

How on earth do I go about finding out whether it will still be on on either Saturday 12 or Saturday 19 July, which are the two Saturdays nearest his birthday?

The cinema websites just give picture information for the next 7 days.

Someone somewhere must know this...

The Temple of Mammon which is Bluewater will let you book weeks in advance. BUT you do get to go to the Lego Shop and Ed's Easy Diner...
What screens are you after SSB

PuppyMonkey · 01/07/2008 15:13

It will be on, I'm sure. it's one of the summer blockbusters, they ain't gonna pull it til they milk us of all our money!

It is DEAD good, saw it last night with dd1.

Don't think I could get to Bluewater, Marina.

Have rung Islington Vue, Stratford Picture House and Barbican and all said that they don't know yet, they only get programme information about 10 days in advance.

Grrrrr.

It's a trek, true, but you can do it by public transport if booking in good time is the key issue, SSB. We go by train and hopper bus from Greenhithe Station
I am sure you will get seats if you book as soon as the local cinemas confirm their programmes though

SixSpotBurnet · 01/07/2008 16:31

I am sure we can get seats - I am just worried that it won't still be on by then. But it seems very popular, so I am probably worrying for nothing - aren't I ?

I work for a major chain, and used to schedule films. The reason they can't tell u is they genuinely don't know - schedules are done each Monday for the following Friday onwards, are based on box office figures for that weekend, and involve lots of negotiation between cinemas and film companies. It probably will still be on by then, even if it is only one show on Sat/Sun mornings, which is usually the last one to get dropped, but which is probably the one you want.

SixSpotBurnet · 02/07/2008 09:58

Thanks KelaH - I thought something like that was probably the case, but very useful to have it confirmed.

Have persuaded DS1 to go for Sat 12 which is the Sat before his birthday on the basis that it is more likely still to be on then than the following Saturday.

He is being ever so sociable this year (he is mildly autistic, and birthday celebrations have often been rather fraught - he has six kids on his invites list!

SSB, this is a wonderful age for children to have parties. We had the usual wide range of food and social tolerance levels at ds' matinee this year and for the first time they all enjoyed themselves and made generous companionable allowances for divergence of views. Wherever you end up, I know it will be a lovely occasion
