The Social Reckoning

I rather liked it. Didn’t think I cared much about the story (as a fictionalised account) but was drawn in by the extraordinary cast. In the end everything except the Facebook story was merely sketched, so it didn’t feel like the fully rounded experience I generally expect a film to be. But I’d be surprised if it didn’t win some prizes.

I can't wait to see it. Anything by Aaron Sorkin is brilliant I think and the cast looks great.

Just seen this today and I enjoyed it immensely. As soon as it was announced I was excited to see it.

Was it the story, or the cast, or Sorkin, that attracted you, @Britpopbaby?

I found it underwhelming and was expecting more from Sorkin than handwriting over his compatriots' apathy towards limiting the power of lies.

I thought the performances were good, but the script was a bit underwhelming. It needed a bit of showing the impact of these issues on a personal level, like I thought might happen from the opening. It’s worth a watch but not earth shattering.

I’d assumed it was a technical term I hadn’t come across!

I really liked it - such a change to see a film that assumes you can concentrate! Although I found the end really depressing, as after all the elation of the whistle blower coming forward, we are in a worse place now than we we were then.

But it was interesting to see the ‘uncovering’ of a concept / notion / fact we have all so quickly come to take for granted. That algorithms push towards extremism almost feels like stating the obvious now - how did we not always know this?

I really enjoyed it too, I really enjoy watching Jeremy Strong in whatever he does and I thought the whole cast were excellent.

I loved it. It also scared me. We KNOW now how bad it all is and yet…..we haven’t changed.

i enjoyed The Social Network and didn’t know anything about the story so it was really for that. I thought the acting was top notch especially the two leads.

Yes it was funny as I found the stats underwhelming rather than shocking, maybe a sign of how cynical we have become over the past few years.

Can't wait to see this one!

I think it was the fact that divisive and negative content worked so powerfully Vs positive content that was so surprising. I don't think anyone could have predicted that. Plus the fact that Face Book knew and did nothing - a real Big Tobacco moment as they said in the film.

It’s pretty sad to know we live in a world where our fellow human beings are more inspired and energised by hate than love …

I studied both the history of philosophy, and jurisprudence as parts of my first degree forty years ago. I must have completely forgotten all the lectures and supervisions and seminars on this. 🤷‍♀️
