Toy Story 5 - would it be strange for me and my husband to go and watch this at the cinema as a date night? XD

So being 32, I believe the first Toy Story came out when I was around 3 years old, so I have pretty much been grown up with Toy Story. Would it be really sad for a 32 year old and my husband who is 29 to go and watch this at the cinema? I would feel a little embarrassed and feel it’s more aimed at just children. We do have children, but they are 3 and 11 months so too young to sit and watch a whole film and would just end up being stressful. I know we could just wait until it’s out elsewhere but Ild rather make a date of it which doesn’t happen often! 😂 and then could go for dinner after.

Who cares what anyone thinks? DH and I went to watch Toy Story 3 at the cinema aged 31 and 5 years before we had children.

Not strange at all.
Pixar films are aimed at everyone - not just children.

SocksAndTheCity · 18/06/2026 19:02

I'm going to a screening tonight at 20.45; I doubt there'll be many children there.

ExitPursuedByABare · 18/06/2026 19:03

Of course not. If you’ve grown up with the films then of course you will want see the fifth in the series. My DD and I will probably go together. She is 26. I’m 67.

purpleme12 · 18/06/2026 19:03

I really don't it's strange at all
I'm pretty sure the Toy Story films have something for all ages

TheeNotoriousPIG · 18/06/2026 19:15

Nope! I will be making a rare venture into the city to see this on my own, and I am a similar age to you, OP!

TurquoiseDress · 18/06/2026 21:10

Not strange at all!

CheeseWisely · 18/06/2026 21:30

Why would it be strange? I’ll likely be going to see it on my own in the next week or two (I’m 42).

pilates · 18/06/2026 21:34

No not at all. My son has gone with his gf tonight (early 20’s).

That’s a massive age gap

I was picking up DS from a different film earlier and while lots of families with kids were going in to TS, equally there were lots of unaccompanied adults. DH and I were at the London premiere of the last one with our then-smallie and his friend, and even though he’s 14 now, we’re all going together to this one at the weekend.

yeah was going to say, my local cinema has the last showing of TS at 11pm so they are clearly expecting adults to want to go.

you are literally sitting in the dark, who is even going to be looking at you to judge how old you are? Cinema staff are used to all sorts of people going to see every film, in every permutation of groups. They don't care.

I did actually spend a bit of time deciding worth it was writing it as separate sentences to avoid the comic potential but chose the shorthand and ambiguity!

Iocanepowder · 18/06/2026 22:45

Do it op.

DH and I went to see no. 4 together just the 2 of us and we’ll go see no.5 as well. Neither of my kids are into it so fuck em.

I was prime age when Toy Story 1 came out and loved my toy Woody!

pilates · 19/06/2026 06:49

Update; son & gf said it was really good 👍🏻

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/06/2026 07:39

About 30 years ago, my friend and I were the only people in the cinema without kids, when we saw the first one as students.

DH and I are planning to go this w/e. The teen dc can join us if they wish.

Pabbel · 19/06/2026 07:46

Nope , im booked to go on my own next week, really looking forward to it.

B9waiting · 22/06/2026 22:34

I went on my own tonight - loved it!

Cobrakainerd · 22/06/2026 22:59

Not strange, DH and I watched Flight of the Navigator and Gummy Bears on a trip away.( very wet night away)..we still talk about it 40 years later.!
